To work or not to work
March 26, 2009Every Thursday evening after my last class for the week, I’m usually dead tired so when I wake up Friday morning, I always have this dilemma - To work or not to work. And I know I’m not alone. So, I found this excerpt from Khalil Gibran’s book The Prophet and this helped me put things into perspective whenever I’m contemplating during the first few minutes of my Friday morning if I should just stay in bed or work. Here it is:
Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.
For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man’s hunger.
And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.
And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man’s ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night.
When to Quit
March 21, 2009Its’ also good to know when you need to quit. I deleted the part regarding business and investing. Enjoy your weekend. ——————————— Here are 50 things you should quit in your life time. (Relationships, Health, Finance, Job, Business, Investing)
—- ON THE JOB —-
QUIT…
(1) a job that takes too much attention or time away from your family
(2) work that forces you to compromise… morally
(3) careers or activities you are not good at
(4) work that won’t fulfill your financial needs no matter how good you do
(5) a dead end job — quit eventually. Always think forward.
(6) a project that does not end
(7) from a company without direction
(8) from a boss — whom you won’t learn anything
(9) doing something you don’t really enjoy (or something that won’t bring any reward in the end)
(10) sleeping on the job. Do your best and show them what you got!
Love Yourself
March 19, 2009I don’t know yet what to give to my husband, but I already have something for myself for our anniversary. Haha..This is the way I (wash my hands?..ay corny!) love myself. I like the style and color of this bag from Fossil (Yellow and hippie? Aylabit!).

I love Clinique!
When I was still living in the Philippines, I have always wished to own a Clinique set of make up. So when I got here and finally got a job, this is one of my goals, to finally purchase a Clinique make up set. Ha! One mini goal down!It happened because one of my favorite stores to shop here, Myer has this promotion (Oh yes, I am a sucker for promotions and give aways!) so last month, I went to buy myself a concealer (I was so stressed the last 2 months because of my new schedule, it’s taking it’s toll on my skin!)and a lipstick and got myself a free Clinique make up set! Yay!
Vote Earth
March 18, 2009
WHY SHOULD I VOTE EARTH?
This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
Slumdog Miliionaire
March 17, 2009Do not be too moral.
You may cheat yourself out of much life so.
Aim above morality.
Be not simply good; be good for something.
~Henry David Thoreau
For those who haven’t watched it yet, please do (It’s still showing here in Australia, that’s how popular this movie is). If you’re a Filipino grounded to the harsh realities of life in the Philippines, you can most probabyly relate to this movie. If not, then this movie is a learning experience. The circumstances shown in the movie still happen everywhere in the world. You just have to open your eyes and see what’s really out there.
Eat Pray Love
March 14, 2009I’ve been wanting to read this book ever since I saw it at Borders. What captured my attention was the word “pray”. Lately, I’ve been reading books which are about faith, religion, and spirituality. But this one is a fun way to read a book which are about those subjects. Maybe because it’s a personal experience of the author, and it’s grounded to the everyday and mundane things that we do and worried about. All the same, this book has taught me that self-discovery is a lifelong process and that loving one’s self is not an easy task. You may be on your 20’s, 40’s or on the last stages of your life, but surely, there is still a lot more to learn and love about yourself.
Here’s another review from Powell’s Books (http://www.powells.com/biblio/0670034711) :
“An intensely articulate and moving memoir of self-discovery, Eat, Pray, Love is about what can happen when you claim responsibility for your own contentment and stop trying to live in imitation of society’s ideals. It is certain to touch anyone who has ever woken up to the unrelenting need for change.”
Gluttony
Guilty. Just look at us.

Hehe.. We went to Coffee Club this morning (our favorite cafe!) Ned had a big breakfast with steak, bacon, sausage, toast, eggs and mushrooms. Mind you, when they say big breakfast here in Australia, it is really BIG! He had late night shifts the whole week and haven’t been eating well (he opted to sleep rather than eat), so I can understand how hungry he was.
While I had my favorite ceasar salad with grilled chicken. I rarely eat salads (I only eat salad when we eat in Coffee Club), but this one is really good so I can eat it even at breakfast!Hehe.. Weird!
Strained eyes?
March 10, 2009Note from me: always get really tired and strained eyes at the end of the day and when I saw this article, I found the solution to my problem. Some of the phrases and sentences from the articlae has been deleted and I highlighted the important points. I just need to show the parts that would help those who are suffering from the same problem that I do with my eyes. I hope this would help you too. :p

Tired and strained eyes? You’re looking at the wrong part of your computer monitor!

Francis M.
March 7, 2009This is sad. I was shocked when I saw the news about this. When I was in primary school, we used to sing his songs. Until now, whenever I hear his songs, it would bring back fond memories of my childhood. But as his song “Kaleidoscope World” goes:
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Yes, I think many will mourn. I will not, but I did say a prayer or two for him and his family.
Why the Philippines is a third world country…
March 5, 2009Note from me: As a UP graduate, I was taught of so many social sciences theories (I was a Dev’t Studies major, mind you.). My former professors would go on and on about why the Philippines and Filipinos are like like what we are now. But I think this is one of the reasons why the Philippines is a third world country. Of course it’s just my opinion and I know there are still so many factors why we are like this. Anyway, I’m glad that part of our history (Marcos’ regime)is (almost) over.

Philippines recovers 1.8bln dlrs from Marcos: official
AFP - Wednesday, March 4
MANILA (AFP) - - The Philippines has recovered at least 90 billion pesos (1.83 billion dollars) from deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos’s family and allies, a government official said Tuesday.
Narciso Nario, a commissioner with the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), said this disproved accusations by some legislators that his agency should be abolished because it was not doing its job.
“We were able to recover 90 billion pesos in cash and other assets including lands and houses that were part of the Marcos ill-gotten wealth, since the PCGGs founding,” he told the agency’s employees.
The PCGG was created in 1986 to recover assets from Marcos and his allies following the popular revolt earlier that year in which he was deposed.
Pink dolphin?!
March 3, 2009
I asked my husband if I can get one for my birthday. As if! But it looks like a toy, doesn’t it? Hmmm…I wonder if it comes in yellow too? Hehe..
It’s actually an albino dolphin. Click HERE for the rest of the story.

Day Off
March 1, 2009
Dahil day off namin pareho ni Dudung, este ni Ned, we decided to wander around the city. We ended up eating at Pepper Lunch, window shopping at The Galleries Vicoria and QVB, watching the street guitarist (you can buy his very own CD for $20!), and scanning the books at Kinokuniya. Wala pa kaming purchasing power kaya yan lang muna pede naming gawin. Hehe..
