To work or not to work

Every Thursday evening after my last class for the week, I’m usually dead tired  so when I wake up Friday morning, I always have this dilemma - To work or not to work. And I know I’m not alone. So, I found this excerpt from Khalil Gibran’s book The Prophet and this helped me put things into perspective whenever I’m contemplating during the first few minutes of my Friday morning if I should just stay in bed or work.  Here it is:

Work is love made visible.

And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.

For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man’s hunger.

And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.

And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man’s ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night.


Isn’t that nice? I always think of this line ”Work is love made visible”, whenever I’m deciding to go against working. Hehe.. And I always offer the things I need to do everyday to God and think about the days when I was bored to death before I got a job here in Australia. That made me feel better about going to work.  :p
